Every child starts somewhere different, so lessons follow your child, not a fixed program. Here's what they can cover.
Songs they already love
Kids practise more when the music matters to them, so lessons can include songs your child enjoys, simplified to suit their level.
First chords and strumming
For beginners: holding the guitar comfortably, a few easy chord shapes, simple strumming patterns and switching chords in time.
Rhythm and timing
A steady beat is what makes playing sound like music. Clapping, counting and strumming along all help it click.
Reading tab and simple notation
Enough reading to work out new songs at home, without making lessons feel like homework.
A next step for kids who already play
Barre chords, fingerpicking basics, cleaner chord changes and more interesting strumming patterns.
Practice that actually happens
Each lesson aims to end with one clear thing to practise. A few focused minutes most days usually beats one long weekend session.
How lessons at home work.
I come to your place for every lesson, anywhere I cover in Sydney. There's no rushing across town after school and no waiting in the car. Your child learns somewhere familiar, and you can hear how it's going from the next room.

No guitar yet? I can supply one for an additional fee. If there's already one at home, your child learns on the same guitar they'll practise on all week.
Why parents choose me.
I learned as a kid myself. I started playing at age four, so the early stages are familiar ground: sore fingertips, buzzing chords and the great moment a song finally comes together. That helps me stay patient through the tricky bits and notice when a child is ready for more.
Fourteen years of guitar. I played all through school, including performing, and have worked through formal graded music exams. I bring that grounding to every lesson: good habits from the start for beginners, and a clear next step for kids at an intermediate level.
Confidence, one small win at a time. I keep lessons light and encouraging, and break songs and skills into steps your child can manage. Hearing themselves improve is what makes kids want to pick up the guitar again, and one day play it for the family.
Questions about guitar lessons for kids in Sydney.
Does my child need any guitar experience?
No. I teach complete beginners and kids who already play at an intermediate level. Beginners start from the very first chord, and kids who already play pick up from wherever they are.
How do you keep kids motivated to practise?
Practice is kept small and specific, often part of a song your child enjoys, so they know exactly what to work on. Short, regular practice is easier to stick with, and hearing their own progress keeps kids keen.
What do we need ready for a lesson?
Not much. A guitar, a chair without armrests and a quiet spot away from the TV is ideal. If you don't have a guitar yet, I can supply one for an additional fee.
