Every new player starts somewhere slightly different, so I move at your child's pace. These are the building blocks lessons can work through.

Where the guitar sits, where each hand goes and how to hold a pick. A relaxed position early on makes every later step easier.

How to tune with a clip-on tuner or a phone app, and how to hear when a string sounds off. An in-tune guitar makes those first chords sound like music.

A few simple chord shapes, learned one at a time, with tips for pressing down cleanly so the notes ring out instead of buzzing.

Steady down strums first, then easy patterns, counting out loud so the strumming hand keeps time while the other hand changes chords.

Putting chords and strumming together into a real song your child wants to play. For many beginners, this is the moment guitar really clicks.

How in-home beginner guitar lessons in Sydney work
I'm a guitar teacher who comes to you. Every lesson is one-on-one in your home, wherever I cover in Sydney, so there is no drive across town and no waiting room. For a nervous beginner, learning somewhere familiar takes a lot of the pressure off.
No guitar yet? You don't need to buy one to get started, because I can supply a guitar for an additional fee. If you already have one, I can help tune it and check it is comfortable for your child to play.

Questions about starting guitar
Does my child need any experience before the first lesson?
No. Beginner lessons start from zero, with holding the guitar, tuning it and playing a first chord. If your child already knows a chord or two, I simply start from where they are.
We don't own a guitar. Can we still start?
Yes. I can supply a guitar for an additional fee, so there's no need to buy one before the first lesson. If you decide to buy your own later, ask me what suits a beginner.
How much should a beginner practise between lessons?
Short, regular practice usually works better than one long session. I can set a small, clear goal after each lesson, so your child knows exactly what to work on before the next one.
How soon will my child play a real song?
Every learner moves at their own pace, so there's no set timeline. Once a beginner can switch between two simple chords and keep a steady strum, a first song is usually within reach.
